It is very easy to only play the music you like. However, it is wise to learn to play and learn other genres of music. Branch out! learn some Jazz, some Indie Rock, some Rap, and maybe some Ska. Your fluency will come out in your playing, and knowledge is power.

Having a portfolio of your work is so important! You may never get “discovered” but you’ll never get noticed if you do not advertise your skills. You could be the best drummer in the world, but if you never show your potential, “making it big” becomes a slim opportunity.
Training to play with the click is the most important thing for a drummer. A drummer, as the beating heart of the band, should be as precise as possible.
Before sitting down at your instrument, plan out what you are going to work on. Try to set aside an 15 minutes to hour to hone that rudiment, that fill, that sticking. If you make the time and stick to it, you might see some awesome results.
Push Your Boundaries. Make friends to help you further your musicianship.
Spend 15 minutes a day in practicing. Delete distractions from your life. Stay focused
